“Don’t Worry! Be Happy”!

Years ago, after my parents returned home from an “Old Timers” bus trip to the New England states, my mom told me that the theme song on the trip was “Don’t Worry! Be Happy”. At the time I thought, “That’s silly. Just a bunch of fluff!” But it seemed fitting since the tour guide and driver was my goofy and lovable Uncle Jack.

But since then, I’ve become a fan of the catchy tune because it has also become somewhat of a theme song for our son, David. With his dystonic movements from Dystonia, he is often twisting into uncontrollably distorted position that are very uncomfortable, causing him to yell and be “un-happy”. So my husband found this funny version of the song performed by Bobby Mcferrin and we play it from time to time.
I hope you will enjoy it and that it will lighten and brighten your day!

One Thousand Gifts – A Dare To Live Fully Right Where You Are

Have you read any truly inspiring books lately?  I’m in the middle of one that is hard to put down!

About 2 weeks ago, my good friend, Len, who has gone through her own difficult circumstances, told me about a book her daughter had accidentally left at her house on her last visit. Len picked it up and started reading it.  She said she is now going through it for the second time.

Where to even begin! This is by no means a comprehensive review of this inspiring book.

Have you ever wondered, “What’s the point of all this?”  ”Why am I living?” “Where is the fullness in life?”

Ann Voskamp hits some very familiar chords with her classic.  As she “invites you into her own moments of grace, she gently teaches you how to biblically lament loss, turning pain into poetry: intentionally embrace a lifestyle of radical gratitude: and slow down and catch God in the moment.”

The story starts out with her recounting her own loss and the struggle she went through. Then she continues through her own struggles of feelings of emptiness in her daily duties of life as a farmer’s wife and mother of 6.  But things start to change for her after a very vivid and scary nightmare.

Through her mind and heart change, as a result of the nightmare, she makes her own study of what it means to LIVE FULLY, zeroing in on the greek word, Eucharisteo.

Grace, Thanksgiving, Joy

In her own words,

“The holy grail of joy is not in some exotic location or some emotional mountain peak experience.  The joy wonder could be here! Here, in the messy, piercing ache of now, joy might be – unbelievably – possible!  The only place we need see before we die is this place of seeing God, here and now.”

THIS is a threefold cord that holds life.  Offers a way up into the fullest life!
True gratitude brings true joy.

That’s all for now. Hopefully I’ll be able to review more of this wonderful, poetic book for you. But in the meantime, you really need to go and get  One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are and read it for yourself! It is a life-changer!

Blessings to you!

Inspiration Through Song – Blessings

Inspiration comes in different ways. This morning at church it came through a solo. I hope you are blessed and encouraged as much as I was!

Blessings

We pray for blessings: we pray for peace, comfort for family, protection while we sleep,
We pray for healing, for prosperity. We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering.
All the while, You hear each spoken need,
Yet love us way too much to give us lesser things.

‘Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops?
What if Your healing comes through tears?
What if the thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You’re near?
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise?

We pray for wisdom, Your voice to hear. We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near.
We doubt Your goodness: we doubt Your love as if every promise from Your Word is not enough
And all the while, You hear each deperate plea and long that we’d have faith to believe.

“Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops?
What if Your healing comes through tears?
What if the thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You’re near?
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise?

When friends betray us, when darkness seems to win,
we know the pain reminds this heart that this is not our home.

What if my greatest disappointments or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a great thirst this world can’t satisfy?
And what if trials of this life, the rain, the storms,
The hardest nights are Your mercies in disguise?

It Is Well With My Soul – Getting The Right Perspective

Have you lost your perspective? Watch this Music that Inspires!

This morning I was feeling exceptionally overwhelmed and scattered. As I was cruising around Facebook this video popped up on one of my friend’s profiles. Hearing these sweet voices harmonize so beautifully and being reminded once again that He is in loving control, helps me know It Is Well With My Soul. What made it even more meaningful to me is knowing where she is in life. Debbie is a dear friend from high school who is the primary caregiver to her husband who has Alzheimers, among other severe and degenerating issues. (They are only 52 years old!)

Be blessed! And know that it can be Well With Your Soul!

“It is good to give thanks to the Lord,

And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;

The Game Of Spasms

Be inspired by this poem written by a woman with Dystonia.

The Game Of Spasms

by Sharon Mazurek

“My life in the game of spasms is like any game we play
I wake up in the morning and I always start to pray
Will the game that I choose to play today be easy like a toddler?
Or will that game I chose to play make my spasms feel tauter?

When we play a game of baseball
We always want to score
But in The game of spasms we might just be too sore

It does not really matter if win or lose the game
As long as we can walk away and always feel the same
In my Game of Spasms, I always feel this way
Tomorrow I will win the game, it’s just another day!

In my game of spasms I will listen to my team
They know about my spasms
But they always make me beam!

Now football season has arrived, the stadium is full
And when I sit down in the stand my spasms start to pull.
But as I watch the quarterback running to the goal.
My spasms are relaxing, I want to rock and roll

In my Life of Spasms the game is never done.
I know that by tomorrow
I will make that 3rd home-run!
Everyday is different in all the games we play!
And in my life of Spasms
I know I’ll be okay!

To all who suffer with me
Never ever be afraid
Because I now that someday
We will be leading the parade!”

Sharon’s recommendation for life:
“Take one day at a time. Never give up. There is always Hope and always people to support you”
