Live Forever: Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors

As you may have noticed, I don’t blog with a schedule. I blog when something inspires me or speaks to me. At those times I know I have to share. I think others will be blessed and inspired and encouraged too.

{Video Below!}

This morning I woke up and opened my email as usual. Delete…Delete… Delete… But then I came across an advertisement from our local music hall, Minglewood Hall, here in Memphis, , it caught my eye. Usual I delete those too, without even looking at them, but this time I opened it because I saw a name I was familiar with. Drew Holcomb. I’ve never met Drew but I know his family pretty well.

I remember the day his brother was born. Marshall and I had  been married a couple of years and were enjoying our first baby. We were sitting in our young married’s Sunday School class at First Evangelical Church in Memphis, TN when the Sunday School teacher announced that Nancy and Hamp Holcomb had just had their baby. After the excitement died down they said they needed a lot of prayer because it was discovered that their newborn son had a very serious condition, Spina Bifida.

Jay Holcomb lived for about 14 years, bringing lots of joy and happiness to his family. I remember hearing the sad news of his death. Raising a child with special needs is a family affair. The special needs family goes through a lot of ups and downs together. There are many difficult and stressful days but the love for each other far outweighs the strain.

Drew Holcomb is Jay’s older brother. For many years now, Drew has made quite a name for himself in the music world. When I clicked on the advertisement for tickets to the special Christmas Concert, Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors, “A Very Neighborly Christmas”, it brought me to a video of one of their hit songs, Live Forever, that was played on an episode of House. I was so moved! It is a beautiful music video in honor and memory of his brother, Jay. I know you will be blessed too.

    Hmm it seems like your blog ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m
    thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any tips for beginner blog writers? I’d definitely appreciate it.
