True Colors : Are you a Peacock or a Duck?

I just ran across this little inspiring story about the Peacock and the Duck. It really makes you think! Which one do you want to be like? Choose wisely! :)
“Spectators watched a peacock spread it’s tail and show it’s bright feathers in a park zoo. The bird thrilled them as it strutted about in it’s pen, showing off it’s beautiful tail.

Then, a duck waddled across park nearby. The peacock became angry … Continue Reading

Another DBS Miracle!

When a suffering and contorted child or adult finds dramatic help from their Dystonia it is a chance to stand and shout it from the rooftop!

That is why it is with great pleasure and rejoicing that I share this story of DBS and Dystonia with you.  It is a story of a seemingly perfectly normal child whose life is turned upside-down when he begins to show signs of Dystonia at age 11. What is Dystonia? Dystonia is a neurological disorder which causes muscles to contract involuntarily, forcing affected … Continue Reading

Laurel And Hardy: A Good Medicine

“A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.” – Proverbs 17:22 (Amplified Bible)

Being confined to a wheelchair because of Dystonia and struggling to use his hands in the midst of contorted and twisted movements makes for a limited repertoire of enjoyable activities for David.  But that doesn’t seem to hinder his good-natured, joking and sly disposition!  One of his favorite pastimes is watching good ole’ Laurel and Hardy movies. In fact, he … Continue Reading

Cerebral Palsy Inspiration: A Sweet Angel

The other day I ran across the sweetest youtube video and wanted to share it with you. But before I could, I felt like I should get the approval of Mary, the mother of Shannon.  Not only did she give me the nod but she also sent me a short message for me to post along with the movie.  Those of us with a special need’s child will certainly relate.

“I am honored and humbled that God granted me the absolute privelege of being chosen to be the mother and caregiver of my beautiful daughter, Shannon. She … Continue Reading

Goodnight And God Bless!

Several months ago I heard an interview by a woman who I could relate to on many levels.  Linda Burhans had recently been a caregiver to her mother whom she was very close to. Near the end of her mother’s life she began writing a book about her mother with the intent of inspiring and encouraging others caring for a loved one. That hit home for me in 2 ways in particular. First of all,  we are caregivers for our son, David, who has special needs. And second, I just wrote a memoir of my dear mother who passed … Continue Reading

Amanda the Puppeteer

Last week our Civitan group had a very special person come to visit! Amanda came bringing her friend, Ellen Jane, who is her puppet.  Amanda is a beautiful young lady with Down Syndrome who is a puppeteer with Kids On The Block.  She did an amazing job getting across the point that people with special needs are more like us average people than unlike us.  Kids On The Block is an award-winning international educational program created … Continue Reading
